We caught up with Matthew Crookes, our Wicketz officer across Bradford and Leeds and Rick Robinson, our Wicketz officer in Hull, to find out what they’ve been up to in November.

All our young people showed great levels of engagement and interest during the St John Ambulance workshop, asking some great questions and taking away some valuable learnings. – Matthew Crookes, our Wicketz officer for Leeds and Bradford

Wicketz – Leeds/ Bradford

It’s been another busy month for our Wicketz program across Bradford and Leeds, with weekly sessions taking place throughout across our three Hub locations; Trinity Academy Leeds, Grange Interlink and Karmand Community Centre.

We have had more than 40 different participants take part in our sessions this month, with 10 newly registered participants, including six female participants.

Highlight of the month

St John Ambulance came down to our session at Trinity Academy Leeds and delivered an educational and engaging Emergency First Aid workshop to our young participants, on Monday 28th November.

All our young people showed great levels of engagement and interest during the workshop, asking some great questions and taking away some valuable learnings. We are also hoping to get similar sessions delivered by St John Ambulance across our Bradford Wicketz Hubs in early 2023!

Coming up in December

We have more of the same to come in December, with weekly sessions continuing right up until the week before Christmas day.

Our weekly session schedule for this month:

Monday’s | 5pm-7pm | Trinity Academy, Leeds (LS9 7QL)
Tuesday’s | 5pm-7pm | Grange Interlink, Bradford (BD7 1PX)
Friday’s | 6pm-8pm | Karmand Community Centre, Bradford (BD3 9EP)

Wicketz Player of the month

The November Wicketz Players of the Month are eight-year-olds Grayson and Oliver. Both boys attend the Kelvin Hall hub and very rarely miss a session. Their attitudes and energy contribute massively towards the hub.

Despite being two of the youngest to attend the hub, this doesn’t stop them getting stuck in, playing to their maximum and always with a smile on their faces. Oliver and Grayson continue to develop their cricket each session while building confidence and social skills.

The pair have no fear in talking to the older participants and often put themselves forward to be the captain of the teams when playing. We hope both boys continue with the Wicketz Project.
